Help “Cap’n” Leo, a retired charter boat captain and USAF Veteran, purchase a sailing vessel to serve our Hurting Heroes™.
Through GoFundMe, we are seeking to raise funds for a vessel for Chesapeake Bay Adaptive Sailing 501(c)(3). At CBAS Org., we will be providing a clinically-proven way to offer each disabled active-duty and Veteran a fresh opportunity to create a new version of their life--They already feel alone and isolated from society after their life-changing injury. Adaptive sports, in this case, sailing, provides a way for them to climb out of their mental rut. Once they get involved, they will realize that they can do much more than they thought was possible. They will not be defined by their disability, and this morale-building therapy is fun and fulfilling.
From the depths of despair, each participating hero will experience a whole new outlook on life. A fresh new positive attitude will affect home and family life in a way that was once thought not possible. In their adventures, they’ll be offered the opportunity to join a crew in sailboat racing and move up to earn a USCG charter boat captain's license.
Some may just want to get away for a day and experience a closeness to nature, solitude and mindfulness, out of sight of land, and breathing fresh air. Some may want the challenge of learning a new skill to share with family and/or a band of brothers and sisters. Others may enjoy the competitive sail boat races or overnight sailing adventures.
About the organizer: "Cap'n" Leo is a retired USCG charter boat-licensed captain, USAF Sgt., Vietnam-era Veteran, and 13-year experienced, pioneering non-profit founder and director, and former businessman. Cap'n Leo is now based in Hampton Roads and has more than 11 years of VA service, 7 of which in the Hampton VAMC Spinal Cord Injury Ward.
CBAS Org. will provide this service free of charge to our Hurting Heroes. All donations through GoFundMe will be used to purchase the "floating classroom" sailing vessel, and maintaining the vessel in a Coast Guard safety-inspected, usable, and comfortable condition.
