Help Cape Cod BMX bring family fun to Sandwich!

What is BMX?
BMX stands for bicycle motocross in which riders compete riding non-motorized bicycles on dirt tracks while maneuvering downhill starts, asphalt turns, and various obstacles and jumps  Riders compete not only by age, but also by proficiency.   Did you know that BMX is one of the fastest growing youth sports in North America, and is also a recent addition to the Olympic Games?  Not only is BMX an exciting and fast paced sport to watch, but it is also family oriented and multi-generational for all abilities and ages.

Why support Cape Cod BMX?
After 34 seasons at Joint Base Cape Cod, Cape Cod BMX is moving their track to an easily accessible site at 71 Quaker Meetinghouse Rd in Sandwich, MA and we need your help in rebuilding the track!  We believe this location will bring more visitors to the track, and in turn help our local businesses in Sandwich and the surrounding towns.  Cape Cod BMX is an inclusive non-profit organization – bringing excitement, personal growth, and family fun to the Cape Cod community.  Though by its very nature it is an individual sport, BMX involves the entire family-from participation, to spectators to volunteers.   It is not uncommon to see multiple members of the same family (children, parents, and even grandparents) involved with racing at any given time.  At Cape Cod BMX, our motto is “No One Sits on the Bench”!

How will the funds be used?
It is a lofty goal, I know.  But we have much work to do and pay for: land surveying and clearing, building an access road, bringing in tons and tons of dirt, and of course building the actual track to USA BMX specifications.  Not to mention others expenses like out-buildings, lighting, water and electricity.  This initial $75,000 should cover the costs of clearing and building an access road ($15,000) and then the cost of clean EPA approved dirt ($60,000).  The estimated total cost of the project is $171,000.

Who makes up Cape Cod BMX?
Longtime Sandwich resident and esteemed community member Tammy Gibbs is the president and track operator of Cape Cod BMX.  Not only is she a committed and dedicated volunteer, but also a successful business woman in Sandwich for many years.  She will continue to be responsible for the day to day operations of Cape Cod BMX and its program.  Many other local residents volunteer their time and services to help keep the track running.  We all thank you for taking the time to read this and donate to our campaign!
