Hello, my name is Susana, and I am doing this for my son Cano. He was infected with the Covid virus in January 2021 last year. Covid placed him on a comma for 103 days 95 of those, was then on a life support machine called ECMO, which kept him alive while his lungs took a break, hospitalized for 6 months fighting for his life, doctors doing everything possible to save his life, performing procedures after procedures, administering medicines 24/7 hoping to get him thru day after day, the hospital, doctors and medical staff did great things for him. With God always at his side. He finally recovered from his prolonged comma and then dealt with partial paralysis after being in bed for so long. His recovery at home was very slow, painful and stressful. Now having the need to depend on all of us to take care of him became our new everyday life. He had no professional medical home care assistance because of Insurance issues. Finding the right specialty doctors was also a big challenge but achieved in the end. Finally on the right path, he was accepted and placed on the national lung transplant list. His transplant performed on Thanksgiving day of 2021 gave him a second chance in life. Very grateful that he will be normal someday. Hours away from home, he and I must stay closer to the hospital for 3 to 6 months, bringing us one more big expense. Because he couldn't work for so long, lost his job, struggled with his mortgage, car, medical bills, travel expenses for relocation closer to hospital, financially put a big dent in his life. His recovery will take 1 to 2 years, according to doctors, to an average transplant patient; still, in his case, because he is also dealing with many sides effects of Covid, like damages to his nerves, it will be even longer. His anti-rejection medication puts him at high risk for covid, and he must be very cautious. Please open your hearts to help my son. We have no words to thank your generosity in advance. We understand the great need in the world and know that our son deserves a chance in life again.
