Hello friends,

My little sister Canna and my two nephews Riv and Russ are in the midst of a housing crisis and in desperate need of help. While raising her kids on her own, one of which is still breast-feeding, without financial support from their biological fathers, Canna has been unable to find a sustainable income or aid, has fallen terribly behind on rent, and will be evicted in a month if she doesn't pay the year of back-rent that her Landlord is owed. To her landlord’s credit, he has agreed that if she pays this off she can continue to live in her house and possibly work to buy it off long-term and have it as her own.

Canna is also dealing with a high-conflict family court case and has been unable to find a public defender in the city of Spokane where she lives. This money will 1)keep her family from going on the street, 2) help her find the legal aid she needs and 3) hopefully help Canna get back on course so that she can focus on being a certified Doula and help other mothers and mothers-to-be who are also in need.

Like our mother, Canna has had to constantly pull herself and her children up in a way that defies gravity and survives despite the crumbling infrastructure of support our country has for folks in generational poverty. As a child we moved 18 times before I was the age of 17 and I can attest having a stable home is a privilege deserved by everyone and something that can affect a child’s sense of security and trust for the rest of their lives.

We have tried every other avenue of aid including my own financial assistance but I am on a limited income and cannot come near to solving this on my own no matter how much I wish I could.
