Help Canelo Get the Dental Care He Needs
Donation protected
My name is Cynthia and I’ve been Canelo’s foster mom since the end of March 2024. I’m starting this fundraiser to help pay for a dental procedure, including tooth extraction(s) for Canelo.
Canelo is 13 years old and his family surrendered him to Oakland Animal Services saying his medical issues were a financial burden and they could no longer care for him. Canelo was flea infested and suffering from dermatitis which resulted in some fur loss. He was also underweight and the outline of his spine was obvious.
He was taken in by OAS and given a couple medicated flea baths by volunteers and loved on. Staff and volunteers noticed his wonderful loving demeanor but senior dogs like him have a difficult time finding new homes. Canelo started declining in the shelter. He stopped eating and began showing signs of depression. He was put on the euthanasia list. However, he was taken into temporary foster by a staff member who knew Canelo has lots of life left if given the chance.
Enter me and Maisie. I took over fostering Canelo. Thanks to the medicated baths, he was flea free when he got to my house. He began eating and we go on daily walks. All of his fur has grown back, he’s put on weight, he loves his walks and he loves playing with Maisie (who is almost 2). I recently noticed that some of his gum area was red and inflamed and he has stinky breath. With permission from OAS, I took Canelo to my vet to get him looked at. He needs to have at least one tooth extracted and the inflamed area treated. OAS does not have the funds for this procedure so I’m asking for donations to help me cover the cost. His bloodwork has been done and his procedure is scheduled for September 4. He has come so far and I don’t want dental disease to be his demise. Any little bit helps and we will be forever grateful!
