Hi, my name is Brodi. i feel incredibly incredibly wronged and tricked by the okanagan humane society
on November 30th 2025 me and my partner decided to adopt a senior cat to be friends with our senior cat. we saw a beautiful dilute tortie that was shy and went to go meet her and adopt her.
when we adopted her we were told she had no health problems and that she had been checked by a vet and everything was fine. she is not fine, she kept drinking so much water and peeing at an insane rate. we took her to the vet about 2 weeks ago. the humane society did pay for that appointment which i am very grateful for. it was a test of her blood and urine, and what the vet found was utterly shocking.
candy was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, possible kidney disease hidden by her thryroids, possible asthma and needs most of her teeth pulled. this all works out to around 5000 dollars.
the vet assured me that no vet prior could have missed these issues and that the vet that she was seen by in the humane society’s care knew all this. but we were not told, we weren’t even warned. completely left in the dark.
the humane society has refused to pay for these treatments and candy is struggling. i have paid for her medicine and food and have done everything i can but i need help.
the okanagan humane society does good things but this is not one of those.
if anyone is willing to help please let me know, me and my boyfriend are two twenty year olds living alone with basically minimum wage jobs. i am so so hurt by this. i have only known candy for a few months but she has become our family and we love her dearly. i feel so tricked.
