Candy Maynard is many things. First of all, she’s a very old, dear friend of mine. We’ve known each other since our early teens, from school. She’s also a mom of four beautiful children, one of whom was taken from this world too soon, a drowning victim at the age of 22. Mortality became crystal clear to her at this moment. Candy is also a skilled, caring nurse who has worked in hospitals in New York, Florida, and California. Healthcare has been a huge part of her entire adult life.

Today, however, Candy is in need of help. She’s been suffering with angioblastic T cell lymphoma for over a year now, and she’s losing the battle. Her last hope to win is to have a bone marrow transplant. Sounds easy, right? Well, it’s not as easy as all that.

In order to have this procedure, she has to relocate several hours away, to be near UCSF Hospital in San Francisco for a minimum of three months. This is the closest place to her where she can receive this treatment.

The costs involved with just the relocation is huge. The cost of the living arrangements, transportation, and even food will be increased, because for a lengthy period, she will be unable to leave her bedroom, and even those caring for her cannot go out for fear of infection… every need will have to be delivered.
