Update 1/2/25 - Candles passed away suddenly of cardiac arrest on January 1st.
Thank you to everyone who donated to help save her. I will leave this open for a bit longer if anyone wants to donate to help cover the final invoice and cremation expenses.
My fur baby, Candles, experienced sudden total paralysis Sunday morning, December 22. This event has already included a few emergency vet visits, two neurology consults, an MRI and surgery. The MRI showed a completely herniated disc at C3/C4 causing the total paralysis. She needed surgery to fix that and she had surgery on Thursday, December 26. All of that together has already cost me close to $20K.
The surgery went well and the prognosis was good with a 95% of full recovery. She was doing well and was starting to make improvements already, until the evening of December 28. Prior to surgery, her liver, kidneys, pancreas, heart and brain were good. She now has acute kidney failure, pancreatitis and aspiration pneumonia.
She was moved into the oxygen cage in the early morning hours of December 29 and will need to remain there for a while. She will need more blood work and x-rays to keep an eye on her levels and lungs. This new estimate ranges from $6,910 to $13,433 so I'm hoping to raise $10,000 to help pay for this.
Candles is a fighter and she has already survived so much, including this surgery. She is still fighting now. She is starting to move all 4 of her legs and paws, so the paralysis is starting to wear off. She still has life left in her and she is not giving up, so I can't give up on her.
This past week has been a nightmare trying to save her life, and just when I thought were we through the worst of it, this happens. I desperately need help paying for this additional care. Please help if you can as every little bit does help. So I'm asking for donations to give her the best Christmas present ever: a second chance at life and the ability to walk again.
Below are screenshots of two estimates, one for the surgery and one for the elevated levels and pneumonia.
