First a flood, then a medical emergency
On July 6th, Alamance County experienced constant, heavy downpours of rain from Tropical Storm Chantal that caused flooding in many areas. One of the areas that flooded impacted my sister and her family’s home that caused her, my brother in law, niece and fur babies to evacuate. At the time they evacuated there were 18 inches of water in the entire lower level of their home. They moved as much as they could to the upper level before safety became a concern and they had to leave. The rain continued until the early morning hours of July 7th. The following months have been and continue to be overwhelming. Most of the contents lost can be replaced but there were photos and childhood keepsakes that are gone forever. The rebuild has begun, but has been a slow process due to the demand of contractors and supplies throughout the area. They have encountered unplanned expenses as most things require payment upfront, deductibles and time away from work have caused a financial strain.
In addition to flooding, they recently experienced a medical emergency that resulted in a diagnosis of a rare cancer for Kevin and an emergency surgery with over a week in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baptist. If you are able to help financially, a Go Fund Me account has been established. Please keep them in your prayers as they navigate home repairs from flooding, caring for Kevin and day to day life.
A workday at their property is being planned in the near future as many trees were downed during the flood. Details will be announced soon.
