Who AM I & My Fight for Canada
My name is Ka Wai Wong, and I am a dedicated employee at RBC. But beyond the office, my life is a story of resilience, driven by an "indomitable spirit" that transcends the mat. I am a Team Canada National Taekwondo Poomsae Athlete, and I am asking for your support to achieve this "Journey to Gold" that once seemed impossible: representing Canada at the 2026 World Championships in South Korea.
The Fight of a Lifetime
My journey to the world stage has been a fight like no other. In 2021, I was diagnosed with lupus erythematosus, a chronic autoimmune disease. While managing that challenge, I was hit with a second blow in 2023: Stage III Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.
The past two years have been a blur of aggressive treatments, surgeries, and recovery. However, I refused to let these diagnoses define my limits. I wanted to show others facing health battles that with resilience, world-class performance is still possible. Just months after aggressive treatments and major surgeries, I returned to the mat and won the 2024 Canadian National Championships. This victory qualified me to represent Canada internationally, and I even achieved a World Top 16 ranking in my division at the 2024 World Championships in Hong Kong!
ELITE TRACK RECORD & 2026 ROADMAP
My consistency across two national teams demonstrates world-class longevity:
• Gold Medalist (Team Canada) – 2024 & 2025 Canadian National Championships
• World Top 16 (Team Canada) – 2024 World Championships
• Gold Medalist (Team Hong Kong) – 2021 World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Championships
• Silver Medalist (Team Hong Kong) – 2022 World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Championships
• Bronze Medalist (Team Hong Kong) – 2021 ATU President’s Cup Poomsae Championships
• Bronze Medalist (Team Hong Kong) – 2020 World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Championships
• Bronze Medalist (Team Hong Kong) –
The Road to Gold: My $30,000 Funding Goal
As a self-funded athlete in Canada, the financial burden of international competition is significant. To represent Canada and the RBC family at the highest level, I have set a fundraising goal of $30,000. This amount covers my intensive 2026–2027 competitive season, allowing me to focus on training and recovery.
Your support will directly fund:
