Hi all! My name is Camryn Lewis-Martin and I'm from Boulder, Colorado. Growing up in a two-mom family, ideologies surrounding social justice and political advocacy were always deeply ingrained into my childhood. Throughout elementary school, afternoons and weekends were spent at the courthouse fighting for the right of same-sex marriage. Both my moms prioritized community involvement, henceforth teaching me that positive change is cultivated through grassroots leadership.
At a young age, I had already developed a passion for the political sciences, and as I got older, that passion only continued to grow. My generation has been defined by social revolution with the questioning of systemic racism via the Black Lives Matter movement, fighting for the environment, enduring the COVID pandemic, and most recently, protesting the ICE raids tearing apart families across the country. As a member of such a generation, I believe that leaving our world a better place than we found it is a part of our duty. This belief, for me, manifests in a passion that has become the driving force in my life; that is the pursuit of justice and the belief that everyone, regardless of background, race, or income, deserves fair treatment under the law.
Growing up, I often found myself troubled by the inequities woven into our legal system. Stories of wrongful convictions, racial disparities, and systemic barriers to fair representation fueled a deep desire in me to be part of the solution. Two organizations in particular, The Equal Justice Initiative and the Southern Poverty Law Center, profoundly influenced my path. Their work in confronting injustice, exonerating the wrongly convicted, and dismantling institutional racism showed me that real change is possible. But this change can only occur if more of us are equipped and empowered to fight for it.
This brings us to why this pre-law program is determinant of my future success. This Pre-Law Program will give me the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to pursue a career in law—specifically in the areas of criminal justice and civil rights. By contributing to this mission, you will be supporting a student who is driven by a passion for justice. Your donation is not just preparing a future lawyer, but nurturing a future advocate, public defender, policy changer, and community leader. Your donation will go directly toward educational materials and will cover the tuition of the pre-law program. Every dollar you give helps make law school—and the dream of justice—a little more accessible for someone like me, someone in the next generation of change-makers.
Together, we can build a future where the law works for everyone—not just the privileged few. If you're able to contribute, no matter the amount, your support would mean the world. Thank you for believing in the power of equal justice, and for helping shape a fairer, more compassionate legal system from the ground up.
