A year ago, Camoy stepped into Bembé Drum & Dance Studio for a school project—and walked out with a new passion. What began as a simple assignment blossomed into a deep love for Afro-Caribbean dance and drumming. Since then, Camoy has immersed herself in classes, performed at major events like Summerfest, and taken on leadership roles as a youth intern, mentoring younger students and exploring the rich cultural history behind each movement.

Through Bembé, Camoy hasn’t just learned to dance—she’s grown into a confident, articulate, and passionate young leader. She’s developed public speaking skills, learned the value of teamwork, and discovered a powerful connection to Afro-Latin culture. Watching her transformation has been nothing short of inspiring.

Now, Camoy has the chance to take her journey even further.

This January, she’s been invited to travel with Bembé to Puerto Rico—a vibrant cultural hub where many of the dances she’s learned originate. There, she’ll study traditional dance styles, connect with local artists, and visit an eco-wildlife preserve to deepen her understanding of the island’s history and environment.
