My 7-year-old niece Camila has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation—a rare and painful brain condition that causes part of the brain to press into the spinal canal. Right now, Camila is living with severe headaches, night-time vomiting, leg pain, and body temperature irregularities. These symptoms already make everyday life incredibly difficult—and without treatment, they can worsen over time.

This condition hits especially close to home for me, because I share in this diagnosis. I know firsthand the physical and emotional toll Chiari Malformation can take—and I don’t want Camila to endure the same suffering I’ve experienced.

My sister, Brenda, and brother-in-law, Jesse, have searched for answers here in the U.S., but the available treatments are extremely invasive—often involving high-risk procedures in critical areas of the brain and spine. Even then, they often don’t get to the core of the issue, offering limited long-term relief. That’s why they’ve made the courageous decision to take Camila across the world to the Chiari Institute in Barcelona.

This world-renowned clinic specializes in minimally invasive procedures with life-changing results. After careful research and hope-filled conversations, Brenda and Jesse know this is the best chance at giving Camila the quality of life she deserves.

An appointment has opened up at the end of June, and the family—Camila, her brother Rylan, and their parents—must prepare quickly. But the financial burden is heavy: medical costs, international flights, housing, meals, and time away from work.
