HELP CAMILA GET A TRANSPLANT

SUMMARY 

This Go Fund Me is created for my cousin Camila by her family and friends.

My 22 year old cousin Camila loves life. She is a loving cousin,daughter, sister, friend, and mother of Kai, a mischievous three year old Golden Retriever. She has so much personality, loves pizza, and is the eldest of four children and a role model for her siblings. In 2016, she was diagnosed with cancer (Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma) from which she recovered in 2017 but after 3 years the cancer is back and she needs chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant which her parents cannot afford as she does not have health insurance. The estimated funds needed for treatment are $130,000. Doctors are positive she will make a full recovery with this transplant. Any donation is welcome. 


CAMILA’S STORY

Camila is the kind of person who genuinely cares about others and their feelings and if I could describe her in one word its EMPATHY. She celebrates life everyday either volunteering, spending time with family and friends, or going to the park to play with Kai. A former ballerina, student council member, an excellent student, she was awarded a scholarship to move from Ecuador to attend the University of Miami in 2016, but her plans had to be postponed when she began to experience health problems. For almost a year she had several rashes which could not be diagnosed by dermatologists, she also experienced leg pain and fever episodes which doctors could not explain. In June 2016, she travelled to Houston, USA where she was finally diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma.

Without health insurance, Camila´s parents and the rest of family and friends were devastated by the news but with tremendous financial efforts and thanks to God and the help of all the local community, funds were raised for her to have the 12 chemotherapy sessions and other exams she needed. Thanks to all the financial and medical efforts the lymphoma activity was significantly reduced, and the disease was controlled for all 2017, 2018, and most of 2019 only requiring periodic scans. She continued her normal life and even enrolled in a local college majoring in psychology where she currently attends and made it into the Dean’s list.

However, in December 2019 it was detected in a biopsy that the cancer is back. Camila needs to have 4 more emergency chemotherapy sessions and a bone marrow transplant surpassing $500,000 in the United States. For this reason, we are planning for her to receive treatment abroad, probably in Latin America or Europe where the estimated budget for her entire treatment is $130,000.

Camila’s parents already utilized all their financial resources in her past treatment and right now need our help. All her family and friends are helping but unfortunately it is still not enough. She is a girl who cherishes life, I cannot think of a person who does this more than her. Despite her disease at such a young age, she demonstrated me great maturity as she told me she is grateful to God for letting her live and spend time with loved ones, and to help others.

RESUMEN

Mi prima Camila ama la vida. Ella es una prima, hija, hermana, amiga, y mamá de Kai, un travieso Golden Retriever de tres años. Camila está llena de personalidad, ama la pizza, y es la mayor de cuatro hermanos y un modelo a seguir para ellos. En el 2016, ella fue diagnosticada con cáncer (linfoma de Hodgkin, etapa 4) del cual se recuperó en el 2017 pero luego de 3 años el cáncer ha vuelto y necesita quimioterapia y un trasplante de médula que sus padres no pueden costear ya que Camila no cuenta con seguro médico. El monto estimado del tratamiento requerido es $130,000. Los doctores son positivos que Camila tendrá una recuperación completa con el trasplante. Cualquier donación es bienvenida. 

LA HISTORIA DE CAMI

Camila es el tipo de persona que genuinamente se preocupa por los demás y si pudiera describirla en una palabra es EMPATÍA. Ella celebra la vida todos los días en el voluntariado, pasando tiempo con familia o amigos, o simplemente paseando a Kai por el parque. Fue bailarina, miembro de consejo estudiantil, y siempre una excelente estudiante lo cual le permitió ganarse una beca para viajar desde Ecuador a Estados Unidos para estudiar en la Universidad de Miami en el 2016. Sin embargo, estos planes tuvieron que ser pospuestos cuando ella empezó a experimentar problemas de salud. Por casi un año tuvo rashes que los dermatólogos no podían diagnosticar, también experimentó dolores en la pierna y episodios de fiebre que los doctores no podían explicar. En Junio 2016, Camila viajó a Houston, Estados Unidos para finalmente ser diagnosticada con linfoma de Hodgkin en etapa 4. 

Al no contar Camila con seguro médico, Camila, sus padres, familiares y amigos estuvieron devastados por la noticia pero con un gran esfuerzo financiero y gracias a Dios y la ayuda de la comunidad local, los fondos pudieron ser recaudados para 12 sesiones de quimioterapia y otros exámenes que necesitaba. Gracias a todos los esfuerzos médicos y financieros la actividad del linfoma fue reducida y la enfermedad controlada por todo el 2017, 2018, y la mayor parte del 2019 solo necesitando PET scans periódicos de control. Camila continuó su vida y empezó a estudiar psicología en la universidad obteniendo el mejor puntaje en su carrera. Actualmente continúa sus estudios con normalidad. Sin embargo, en Diciembre 2019 se detectó en una biopsia que el cáncer ha vuelto.

Camila necesita 4 quimioterapias de rescate y un trasplante de médula, que sobrepasa los $500,000 en Estados Unidos. Por este motivo, se planea realizar su tratamiento en el extranjero probablemente en Latinoamérica o Europa. El presupuesto requerido es $130,000.

Los padres de Camila han agotado recursos financieros desde su último tratamiento y en este momento necesitan de nuestra ayuda. Toda su familia y amigos están ayudando pero lastimosamente no es suficiente. Camila adora la vida, no puedo pensar en una persona que lo haga más que ella. A pesar de su enfermedad a una edad temprana, ella ha demostrado gran madurez y está agradecida con Dios por la vida y permitirle compartir con sus seres queridos y ayudar a los demás.
