Hello everyone. I have created this GoFundMe page on the behalf of my stepmom, Melanie Mayer, in the hopes to help provide some much needed financial support for my little brother's, Cameron, hospital stay and upcoming surgery.
My sweet brother has been a fighter his entire life and has overcome every medical obstacle and diagnosis since the day he was born. What makes Cameron so special is that even though he is nonverbal Autistic, has Angelman Syndrome, battles E.O.E disease, struggles with PICA, and has overcome so many life threatening obstacles since he was born he is simply the purest of souls and brings so much joy to our lives.
However due to everything that makes Cameron so unique, special, and immensely loved by our family he actually requires a lot of medical attention to ensure that he remains as healthy as possible. In a recent routine visit Melanie was notified of Cameron's GI tract being completely being backed up due a sizable blockage and that if it was not flushed out immediately it could become life threatening and that surgery was imminent whether if it could not be flushed out or not.
Since Monday, June 7th, he has been taken off of his feeding tube, which provides him all of his daily nutrition, and has been continuously pumped full of laxatives to help the natural process of things but it's just not working fast enough and unfortunately this process has started to effect his liver. The goal is to get rid of this blockage, perform a surgery called a Cecostomy (that will add another tube directly to his intestines to hopefully prevent future blockages for the betterment of his quality of life), and to do all of this before permanent damage is done to his liver from the treatment his little body is having to handle right now.
As a result with Melanie being the sole provider for her family of five she will be having to take 4+ weeks off of work, with no pay, to stay with Cameron throughout his entire hospital stay and be there for him for his after surgery care.
Any donations to help alleviate her financial worries to provide for Cameron's stay and her families needs during this time is beyond words greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement, donations, and sharing my little brothers story. It means so much to Melanie and our family!!
