Help for my great nephew Cameron.

At just 7 months old, Cameron has already faced more challenges than most of us will in a lifetime. In October 2024, at 5 months old, Cameron was diagnosed with an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) and two aneurysms. An AVF is a rare condition where an artery and vein are abnormally connected, disrupting normal blood flow and increasing the risk of serious complications. To help, Cameron underwent a procedure to place four coils to cut off blood supply to the AVF. While this helped, it didn’t fully resolve the issue.

When it was time for his second procedure, Cameron caught COVID-19, delaying treatment for four weeks. On December 16, doctors discovered that his AVF had progressed into an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a more complex tangle of blood vessels that cannot be treated the same way. This change means Cameron now needs brain surgery to prevent risks like stroke, seizure, or life-threatening hemorrhages.

Before surgery, Cameron will undergo another embolization procedure on February 11 to prepare for the major operation on February 12. He also has an MRI scheduled for February 6. To make matters more complicated, genetic testing is needed to determine if Cameron has a condition called HHT, which could mean additional risks in other organs. Unfortunately, insurance won’t cover this testing.

Cameron’s parents have been by his side every step of the way, but the medical bills continue to grow, and the costs of daily living are adding up. With a new baby, there are still ongoing needs like formula, diapers, and daycare for the weeks he is able to attend. Between missed work and mounting expenses, the financial and emotional strain on their family has been overwhelming.
