Several years ago, Cameron Campau, also known as 'C', began a tumblr blog dedicated to helping those who are feeling so deeply depressed that they want to end their own lives, called 'Random Reasons to Live'. The point of this blog was to give small reasons to make it to the next day, from small to large and everywhere inbetween.
Cameron spent his free time almost daily filling out this blog, and after countless hours, the blog now provides over TWELVE THOUSAND (12,000) reasons, most of which have been submitted by the SEVENTY EIGHT THOUSAND (78,000) people who follow RRTL.
In August 2024, Cameron was diagnosed with Melanoma, skin cancer. His insurance company refused to cover the treatment for nearly a month and by the time they did, the cancer had spread to his brain.
To his last moments, Cameron was kind and cared about everyone around him, even when he was suffering. He is truly the embodiment of empathy and has taught me, his spouse, how to see the best in even the worst of humanity.
Cameron's wishes were for his ashes to be turned into a diamond, or gemstone of some kind. Cameron always felt extremely close to nature and there is a large collection of gems and rocks that we have displayed all over our home.
(Unfortunately, being turned into a diamond is not possible and any company attempting to sell such a thing is a scammer.
Thankfully, we found an alternative: There is a blown glass place within driving distance that will use his ashes and create beautiful works of art. A glass gem, which, to me, is just as beautiful, and I know he would feel the same.)
Cameron truly is a gem in this world, beyond even the most stunning of gems.
I, his spouse Tanner (also known as 'N' on RRTL) and his family, would like to provide him with this wish.
His blog received many messages after his passing asking how they can help. After some deeply difficult discussion, our family decided to reach out and ask for your help in providing him with this wish. As much as being a gem will mean to him, it will mean so much more knowing that the people whose lives he touched know what a gem he truly is.
Even if you can't donate - which is understandable in this current economy - please be kind and share this. Also, please be kind and share the Random Reasons to Live blog with anyone and everyone you can. C truly wants and wanted to help anyone and everyone possible and each and every life he still continues to touch makes him shine even more like the gem he is, and hopes to become.
Thank you for reading, thank you for sharing, and thank you for being a part of C's legacy.
Know that you are loved. We don't have to know you to love you, and we - C, N, and all of our family - love each and every one of you.
