I am Anne Cleveland. On Thursday, December 8, 2022 my grandson Camdyn Smith received the most devastating news any seventeen year old could receive. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of his left tibia bone. Within weeks he started extensive grueling chemotherapy. In March of 2023 Camdyn had major surgery that involved replacement of his knee, and removal of the diseased femur bone. A cadaver bone was placed. Camdyn was on chemotherapy through August of 2023. On September 1st he was able to walk his mother down the aisle. Unfortunately, the good news wasn't to last. Although Camdyn is now cancer free the cadaver bone was no longer functioning properly and the hardware was all coming undone. On December 27, 2023 Camdyn was back in surgery. The cadaver bone couldn't be salvaged. The decision was made to replace it with a metal rod. He also had to endure multiple blood transfusions. Surgery was successful and they were able to preserve the tendons and ligaments from the cadaver so he will have flexibility. Although for the most part he is doing well, this is going to require extensive physical therapy and many trips back and forth to Rochester. If you can help at all with these expenses our family really appreciates it. Thank you and God Bless.
