Help Cambodia create a pediatric neurology clinic
Donation protected
During the Cambodian Genocide (1975-1979), educated citizens were targeted to be tortured and killed. This greatly affected Cambodia's healthcare system by leaving the country with virtually no more physicians, nurses, and students. However, over the years, the country's medicine has progressed significantly due to the rise of young, bright students and the contributions of passionate doctors.
Dr. Sambath Kao is one of the passionate doctors paving the road for change. He is a young pediatrician hoping to establish Cambodia's first pediatric neurology clinic/department. To accomplish this, Dr. Sambath needs to first collect research data across the 25 provinces which he can then present to the international conference (and gain more long-lasting support and funding). He will travel to many schools to administer the questionnaires and educate the children on neurological disorders such as migraines.
Dr. Sambath is working closely with Dr. Soma Sahai-Srivastava, medical director of neurology clinics and clinical professor of neurology at Keck Medicine of USC. After learning that there are only 3 neurologists in all of Cambodia, Dr. Sahai was determined to stimulate a change. In 2016, Dr. Sahai gathered a team of USC doctors and led a 3-week long neurology outreach program focused on fostering neurology education. They presented the medical students with neurology textbooks, case studies, and hands-on training. The results became so inspiring that her and her team have returned every year since. The change may come gradually, but it is very tangible and moving. Dr. Sahai is progressing her efforts in improving Cambodia's neurology department through her support of colleague and friend, Dr. Sambath, whose ultimate goal is to establish the country's first pediatric neurology clinic.
Please donate to this influential project to help fund better medical care and resources for Cambodian children. 100% of the monetary donations will go all to Cambodia, where it will be used to fund research proposal fees, statistical support, and travel accommodations.
