Help Calvin Rebuild His Neighborhood, One House at a Time

When a tornado struck North St. Louis on May 16, 2025, Calvin, a brilliant handyman with 50 years of experience, picked up his tools and started fixing what he could. First, he fixed his roof. Then, he restored the electricity for a few neighbors and helped patch roofs for others. In recent weeks, he has donated countless hours, materials, and energy to helping his neighbors regain safety and stability.

Now, Calvin is on a mission to rebuild his block, one house at a time. This fundraiser supports STL Rebuild, a grassroots pilot project created and led by Calvin to provide urgent home repairs to tornado victims who have nowhere else to turn.

How It Works

1. Calvin identifies neighbors most in need, especially single parents and elders.

2. He prepares a simple repair estimate for each home that aims at returning the household to safety and stability.

3. Any money raised through this GoFundMe will go directly towards funding the repairs as listed in the estimates and will be used to cover cost of labor (Calvin is asking for his time to be reimbursed at $30/hour) and materials.

4. Calvin completes the repairs.

5. Anyone can track Calvin’s progress, see before-and-after pictures of his work, and learn more about this project through regular updates on this GoFundMe page.

Calvin has identified the first four neighbors this project will help, created detailed estimates for each property (see updates below for estimates/pictures), and obtained his neighbors’ permission to participate in this project. The four estimates add up to $5281.12, and that is why Calvin has an initial goal of raising $5,282.

UPDATE #2 - Yet again, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, you all helped reach the second fundraising goal of $10,000! That means that not only are all of the repairs fully funded for the first four homes Calvin prepared estimates for, but we are well on our way to funding much, much more for the rebuilding of the Penrose neighborhood! The new goal is $50,000 so that this fundraiser continues to grow in its capacity to hold even bigger dreams for Calvin’s impact on his neighborhood. Calvin will post repair estimates for work planned for future home of families in need of emergency work, before-and-after pictures of repair work, and updates along the way.

UPDATE #1 - On Sunday, June 15, 2025, you all helped reach the initial goal of $5,282! That means all of the repairs for four homes are now fully funded! The new goal for this fundraiser is $10,000 so that funding is lined up to cover the next four or five homes, too. Calvin will post repair estimates for future homes,  before-and-after pictures of repair work, and updates along the way. 

Every dollar goes directly to repairs. There is no overhead and no bureaucracy. Just real help, neighbor to neighbor. Notes

All funds raised will go directly to Calvin individually and not to a non-profit organization. Therefore, donations are not tax-deductible. All funds raised will be deposited into a dedicated bank account and spending records will be made publicly available.
