Help Rebuild Calvin Pruitt’s Home After a Devastating Fire

On the morning of Sunday, October 26, my father, 86-year-old Calvin Pruitt, attended his

regular service at Morning Star Baptist Church in the Newtown community. What began as an

ordinary Sunday quickly turned into a heartbreaking tragedy.

While my dad was in church, his home, the place he had built with years of love, memories, and

faith, was engulfed in flames. According to Union Springs Fire Chief Rob Cameron, firefighters

were already nearby conducting training exercises. They responded immediately, but by the time

they arrived, the house was fully consumed by the fire. Within minutes, everything he owned

was gone. Only the outer shell of the home remains.

Everything else, his clothes, furniture, family photos, cherished keepsakes, and daily necessities,

has been reduced to ashes. We are so thankful that my dad was at church and is safe, but now he’s

facing the unimaginable: starting over at 86 years old, with nothing left but his faith and the clothes he

wore that morning.

Calvin has always been the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help a

neighbor, a friend, or a stranger. He’s spent his life quietly serving his community and his church

family, visiting the sick, checking in on the elderly, and praying with those in need. Now it’s our

turn to help him.

We’re raising funds to help my dad get back on his feet to replace the essentials, find temporary

housing, and begin the long process of rebuilding what was lost. Every dollar, prayer, and share

of this campaign means more than words can express.
