Kelowna, BC has been hit with an unprecedented wildfire which has not only swept through a huge area but also rained burning debris and embers which have caused several other significant fires. Residents have been evacuated as the walls of fire advanced into residential areas despite the best efforts of the BC Wildfire Service and a dozen municipal fire departments.

While many families have been able to spot their homes still standing, Calum and Erica are not so lucky. Today it was confirmed that their first home that they shared with their son was burned down to the foundation when wildfire crept up the hillside and spread through their row of houses.

I have had the privilege of knowing Calum and Erica for the past five years when Calum was hired as the first salaried employee at my company Sync Robotics. Calum is a kind, ethical, thoughtful, creative, and remarkably stoic individual who had recently moved to Canada from Scotland...he quickly set to work at the company while teaming up with his soon-to-be-wife Erica to build a life for them and their son.
