Help Callie Recover

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this. Our sweet 6 year old Husky, Callie, starting acting strange 11/06/2023. She seemed more tired than usual, wasn’t eating (which was hard to tell at first because she’s a grazer and not super food motivated). The concern truly set in Tuesday night when she wouldn’t eat her dinner, which we spruced up with some wet food, or even her favorite treat. Wednesday came and she seemed to be getting worse.

 Initially we took her to her normal vet, and pretty quickly they told us she needed to be transferred to an emergency 24 hr vet. She was admitted to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital 11/08/2023. They had no idea what was wrong with her besides her having a fever with an unknown cause and her red blood cell count being alarmingly low. Many tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds needed to be run to try to narrow down what the issue is.

At this time they believe she may have IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). We still don’t know if it’s Primary IMHA which is idiopathic, meaning the cause is unknown. The body wakes up one day and starts attacking its red blood cells seemly for no reason. It could also be Secondary, meaning an underlying issue may be causing this. (Infection, cancer, inflammatory condition, etc.) Still many tests to run. At the moment she is currently being hospitalized and is in the ICU. She has already had 1 blood transfusion and more may follow. She will need to be on medication for a long time (we don’t have a time frame quite yet).

We are not typically the type of people to ask for help, but we will do anything for our girl to help her recover and live a long life. Any type of donation would be greatly appreciated and would all go towards her vet bills. We have a long road ahead of us, but she’s a strong girl and all we can do is hope for the best and give her what ever she needs.
