Please Help Cali Oso Beat Cancer!

Cali Oso is our spirit animal. She is a 10-year-old spunky girl who loves to fetch, swim, hike and play. She lights up the hearts of everyone who meets her! And she is the crazy glue that holds our family together.

If it wasn’t enough for one of us (me) to have cancer, Cali Oso has just been diagnosed with Grade III Mast Cell Tumor cancer. The tumor was incidentally found on her back left leg this summer. Her infinite fluffiness hid the tumor until it was finally warm enough to swim in the river…we noted the lump right away while she was wet and took her to the vet for a biopsy (which showed mast cell tumor).

Cali had a full oncology work-up with ultrasounds and blood tests, then surgery on 9/21/21 to remove the tumor. During the hospital visit, she had to get a cardiology consult and echocardiogram for a new heart murmur. She now also has a medical oncology consult for her on-going cancer care. Her vet bills have already reached $6000 in less than one month.

As many of you know, Cali has been my own cancer-fighting therapy dog. She has seen me through 6 years of surgeries, immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments. She has a heart of gold and provides incredible support to our family. Now it is our turn to care for her in any way we can!

We've spent thousands of dollars on surgery and vet visits, and we simply can't take on the financial burden by ourselves for her treatments, in addition to my own cancer care costs. I have never asked for support for my own cancer journey, but asking for help with Cali’s seems appropriate for these challenging times! Any support from our community would mean the world to us. More importantly, it would mean so much to Cali, who deserves access to care. We want her to live out her life in comfort and joy.
