Cali is my 11-year-old border collie mix and has been my loyal companion through some of the hardest times in my life. I found her wandering the grounds of the Fresno, California VA Medical Center, homeless and without a microchip. My late husband and I adopted her, and she quickly became a beloved member of our family. Since my husband’s passing, Cali has been my therapy dog, offering comfort and unconditional love as I navigated grief and change. She’s traveled and lived with me in several states, always by my side, and truly feels like a daughter to me.
About a week and a half ago, Cali started acting differently. After battling a hookworm infestation, she became unwell—moving slowly, looking uncomfortable, and struggling to walk. The vet prescribed medications, but they left her miserable and unsteady. I’ve tried everything I can: gentle chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, healing touch, and acupressure. While these have helped a little, Cali still wakes up stiff, moves at a snail’s pace, and spends most of her day sleeping. It’s heartbreaking to see her like this, and I’m worried she may need an MRI and possibly more advanced care. I’ve already spent a significant amount on her treatments in the last month, and I simply can’t afford the next steps on my own.
The funds raised will help cover both past and future veterinary bills, including diagnostics like an MRI and ongoing treatments. I want to give Cali the best chance at recovery and help her get back to living her best life. Thank you for helping me help my Cali.
