Lets Help Calen Overcome Addiction!

The Story:

Calen is one of my best friends and a former employee at TN Scientific, my harm-reduction drug testing company. Recently, I’ve had to make the heartbreaking decision to suspend him from work because he was using fentanyl (and everything it’s cut with, like xylazine) while on the job. Working under the influence, especially in a laboratory setting involving dangerous chemicals, poses serious risks to not only himself but also our customers and team.

While I had to make this decision to protect everyone involved, I deeply care about Calen and want to see him recover and thrive. He’s an incredible person who has always gone out of his way to help others, often to his own detriment. I’ve personally tried to help him overcome his addiction twice before, and while I thought we had made progress, it’s clear that he needs professional help this time.

The Goal:

I’m creating this GoFundMe to not only help Calen attend a 30-day inpatient rehabilitation program but also to stabilize him after he completes rehab. The goal is to ensure he has the tools, resources, and support necessary to maintain his recovery and rebuild his life.

At no point am I forcing Calen to go to rehab. If he chooses not to go, that’s his decision, but when he decides to take this step, the funds raised through this campaign will be available to support his recovery journey.

Here’s the breakdown of what we’re aiming to raise:

Rehabilitation Costs:

Amount Needed: $500

Details: This will cover gas money to get him to rehab and essentials like a new blanket, pillow, clothing, and vending machine funds for snacks during his stay.

Dog Boarding:

Amount Needed: $1,000

Details: Calen’s dog will be cared for at Dog Gone Rite in Knoxville for 30 days while he focuses on recovery.

Post-Rehab Support:

Amount Needed: $8,000

Details: This will provide comprehensive support to stabilize Calen after rehab, including:

Basic Living Expenses: Assistance with finding a safe place to park his RV and covering basic costs while he looks for work.

Ongoing Treatment: Therapy, AA meetings, peer support, and intensive outpatient programs.

At-Home Detox Options: If required, funds will support detox at home under medical guidance.

Drug Testing: Professional testing methods like urinalysis, hair, and nail testing to ensure accountability, with costs ranging from $150 to $400 depending on the method and anti-cheating measures.

Recovery Medications: Funding for medications like Sublocade or Suboxone, or any other treatments recommended by his therapist to aid sobriety.

Why We’re Standing by Calen

Calen is more than just an employee or a friend; he’s family. I hate to use the cliche, but he’s the kind of person who would literally give the shirt off his back to help someone in need—because he actually would. He’s kind, selfless, and genuinely passionate about helping others. TN Scientific is better with him in it, as so many of our customers have noted in their reviews. Calen’s presence has always brought positivity and value to those around him. His addiction doesn’t define him.

Addiction can make people act in ways they never would otherwise, and while I will need time to rebuild trust, I’m committed to supporting him on his journey to recovery.

I know he can do this!

Rest assured, all donations will be handled responsibly and allocated solely toward recovery-focused spending, ensuring he gets the support he needs to stay on track. If Calen refuses a drug test or fails, I cut him off the funds raised until he can pass another drug test or admits he relapses. If he relapses or fails a drug test the funds will be withheld until he either passes a drug test or goes back to rehab.
