Caleb was born with hypospadias with chordee. We had the surgery done to repair it when he was 6 months old; normally, that would be the only surgery needed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in Caleb’s case. He ended up having a surgery at 6 months, 1 year, 18 months, and 2. They all failed. The surgeon that initially did the surgery had never seen something like this happen before, so we took him to a different children’s hospital out of state. They also had never seen anything like this, and they sent him to the best surgeon for this issue in Texas. He specializes in this defect. Caleb will need 3-4 surgeries plus multiple hyperbaric treatments with each surgery. The goal is to release the tension and move the urinary meatus to its proper location. This will be a multi step process, some of them requiring skin grafts, due to him having other surgeries that failed and caused quite a bit of scar tissue. We will have to stay out of state for a week or more each time. He has insurance but the deductible for each surgery $7,050.
