Help Cale Laduke Get Back on the Water
The Saami will never swim again, but let’s help keep our friend afloat.
Last week, Cale endured a nightmare. On his return home to offload salmon, his Navigation system failed. Before Cale could determine his position in the dark, the Saami violently collided with rocks 6 miles from Sitka in 10 foot seas.
Fortunately Cale was able to escape the Saami with his life. He was rescued by the Coast Guard helicopter and returned home. The Saami didn’t fare so well. The hull was badly damaged in the foul weather, and later destroyed in the ensuing fire. You can read more about the collision and local response on Raven Radio (https://www.kcaw.org/2020/08/31/skipper-safe-after-boat-grounds-burns-in-sitka-sound/)
While we are all immensely grateful for Cale’s safety, we understand the enormous unexpected cost of losing his vessel and the impacts to his family’s livelihood. Unfortunately the Saami was a total loss.
We all know Cale is an enormously generous and thoughtful friend who is always willing to help others who come into challenging times. Now is our chance to help raise some funds for Cale to help mitigate some of the unexpected costs of salvage and starting over. Please help us spread the word, and if you can afford to share, your donations will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!
