Cal Howard’s Battle with Leukemia continues.

Happy Saturday and here’s the final update from Anne and Rob:

Please, look for Jenny’s post for the final update as we will be closing out this fundraiser. Last week’s sentiments remain on point. The words “thank you” just can’t express the magnitude of gratitude felt for your support during this very challenging time. But, they are the only words we have left to say. Thank you.

Two months down and two years to go. Perspective. Again, this is a marathon, like all cancer diagnoses, not a sprint. I wish for all of us to continue to support these two as they navigate their “new normal”.

And “support” isn’t just the financial aspect, which is humbly accepted and appreciated. There is a spiritual and emotional component that also needs to be tended to. Please stay present in their lives. Give a text, a call, a card, an invitation out with a hug. An ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. Respect that the deeper feelings are being kept close to their hearts and may not be easily shared in a public forum. Remind them they are not alone in this battle. And that “Team Cal” will always be with them.

Each of you, whether you said a prayer, donated blood or shared this post, or sent financial support are a valued part of “Team Cal”. And in a world gone mad, we are so thankful to have you with us.
Thank you, yet again. Thank you.

My name is Anne Burris-Moffatt. My husband and I are heading up this fundraiser for Rob’s best friend Cal Howard. Cal has recently been diagnosed with CLL, aka chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Cal was in the hospital for over a month and is now receiving out-patient treatments. Cal has had numerous transfusions (20 pints, so far) and medical procedures (plasmapheresis and chemo). Due to insurance issues, including denials, the Big Guy and Jenny are now in Tennessee for an undetermined length of time. Cal has not been able to work, but that doesn’t stop the bills from coming. Jenny has been working remotely from wherever Cal is in order to be with him and be his advocate and will continue to do so.

This kind and generous man would help anyone, anywhere, anytime. Even from his hospital bed, he was texting out some help for us after we blew a tire on the interstate.

No gift or prayer is too big or too small. If we can all give a little we can accomplish a lot. Yesterday, after the 4th of July parade, we started chatting with a nice young lady, Danielle, and her sweet kids. Somehow we began to chat about Cal, and she asked if she could pray with us for him. So we did, right there in the middle of the street. It was so powerful. (I’m not crying, you’re crying). Every little bit helps.

With love, admiration, and sincere heartfelt gratitude, we thank you on Cal’s behalf for your support during this difficult time.
