My name is Maddie and I am Jacob's older sister. Jacob and his girlfriend, Megan, adopted a sweet orange boy together their senior year of undergrad and named him Cal—short for Cal Kestis—in true Star Wars fashion.

Megan took Cal to the vet on March 31st because Cal hadn't been able to eat or hold any food down. The vet took x-rays and found nodules/foreign bodies in his lungs that were not related to Cal's pre-existing asthma. With these symptoms, the vet urged Megan to take Cal to a specialist for further treatment.

The specialists took additional x-rays with a closer view at Cal's chest, and they confirmed that there was a mass in the empty space of Cal's chest cavity. Cal is undergoing additional testing, however, the current top two contenders for Cal's illness are feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) or cancer.

As everyone knows, medical expenses for pets are incredibly costly, but like any good pet parent, Megan and Jacob are exhausting all the means they possibly can to get Cal the ongoing treatment and testing he requires. I am asking for help on behalf of Cal, Jacob, and Megan, if you have the means to donate, or by simply sharing.

UPDATE: Cal’s biopsy for cancer came back negative! He is being started on medication for FIP. Prayers that this is what he needs and that he will soon be on his road to recovery.
