About a year ago, our beloved friend Caitlin was diagnosed with polycythemia vera (PV) - a rare, chronic blood cancer caused by a gene mutation that affects how her body produces blood. To manage this condition, Caitlin must undergo frequent therapeutic blood draws (phlebotomies) to lower her red blood cell count and prevent serious complications like blood clots and stroke.

These treatments are vital, lifelong - and NOT fully covered by insurance. Caitlin is currently paying about $400/month out of pocket, while also navigating the emotional and physical toll of this disease.

On top of all of that, her car is beginning to break down and no longer reliable. She depends on it to get to appointments and treatment, stay connected to her community and continue working.

Despite everything, Caitlin remains her peaceful, kind, radiant self - still offering love and support to others, even while navigating her own challenges. Shes working as much as her energy allows, but treatment-related fatigue makes a second job unrealistic. Instead, she's begun the process of starting up her donation-based tea ceremonies, sharing moments of healing and reflection with others while also working toward her goals.
