Hi everyone! In case any strangers see this, my name is Caitlin (also known as AidedFancy online). I never thought I would be doing this but due to the circumstances I don’t have much of a choice. Last night (February 19, 2023), I was driving my car as normal and it ended up completely breaking down. It just seized up, made a horrible loud sound, and wouldn’t move anymore. I was stuck in the middle of an intersection and had no one else with me. Thankfully a kind stranger helped me push my car to a slightly better position. Upon getting my car towed, kind stranger number 2 spotted my issue immediately and said my CV axle has busted. This could have been much worse if it happened on my daily work commute when I take the freeway.
My car was towed to a Honda dealership about 20 minutes away from where I live. There’s only small auto repair shops close by because I live in such a rural area. My brother and I were told and recommended by the tow truck operator that going to Honda was our best option. Upon my car diagnostic early this morning it was confirmed that my axle busted, and I was also notified that my second axle was horribly rusted and close to its end as well. I understand that car dealership garages can be a bit more pricey from what I have been told. This of course was the case when I got a call from Honda saying it is $1200 for each axle. I debated on only getting one replaced but after taking time to think, I decided my life and safety is worth more than an extra $1200 charge. Since there was no collision involved, insurance can’t help me in this situation. There are payment plan options, so I can get my car back in one day. I can’t afford to miss out on any more work days. I am currently looking at a 12 month payment plan. Any donations received here will go towards this monthly payment and help me get out of debt a bit quicker.
Really anything at all helps. This is all horrible timing for me as I’m moving into my own place very soon and I am also dealing with those expenses. Not to mention the taxes I owe from being self employed (gotta love the IRS). I am thankful I am unharmed as my axle snapping in most areas would have been bad news for me. I am also grateful to the people who helped me late last night when I was stranded. Thank you all.
