My name is Caitlin Goerlich. I am looking for funds to help pay for a wheelchair lift to be put in my house, so I’m able to get to the 2nd floor of my house & become more independent.
Background: I am a paraplegic and have been a wheelchair user since I was 4 years old due to complications in back surgeries for kyphoscoliosis. Up until October 2022, I was able to bump up the stairs to get to the second floor where my bedroom is. However in November 2022, I had shoulder surgery for a torn labrum. It was successful and my recovery lasted about eight months but because of this surgery, I can no longer bump up the stairs and am now in need to put a lift in the house. (Currently sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room.)
Not only will this help save my shoulder from further injuries, it will also help me become even more independent without needing to rely on my parents.
Cost: The cost of putting the wheelchair lift style we are planning is about $32,000, not including the renovations costs (needing to widen stairwell space). Also asking for funds to help pay for a new accessible/adjustable bed ($3,000+) to make it easier for me to get in and out of bed (currently unable to transfer by myself due to space between my chair and mattress).
*Any funds raised past the goal will go toward any other future costs needed (wheelchair parts, other renovation costs, repairs, etc.) and a percentage of additional funds will also be donated to organizations who help & support disabled people.*
No amount is too small and if you could, please share this with anyone and everyone you know!
I want to thank you in advance for helping me raise money. I appreciate all of you ❤️
