This is Caitlin. She is a hardworking, compassionate, single mom of three beautiful girls.
On August 4th of 2022, she was informed by her ENT doctor that she needed sinus surgery after years of suffering from severe, chronic sinus infections. The doctor told her if she didn’t get the surgery, the infections would continue and the polyps could possibly turn cancerous. It was supposed to be pretty routine surgery. It wasn’t.
On August 7th Caitlin was in the ICU at UHS - Wilson with meningitis. On September 4th she was transferred to Albany Medical Center. She was then transferred back to Wilson where she had her first brain surgery on September 28th, 2022. Her second brain surgery was the very next day.
In this journey, she has thus far had a VP shunt placement with five revisions, an LP shunt placement with four revisions and counting. She has had a total of eight brain surgeries, with the ninth happening today, March 3rd. After today’s surgery she will need two or more surgeries in the near future and revisions for the rest of her life.
Since the very first surgery, doctors have ordered she not lift more than 5lbs, no bending, no twisting, and she is to rest in between every hour - as a full-time working, single mom.
For two years she has pushed through, never asking for help from anyone. Two years of countless trips back and forth to Rochester, to Syracuse, countless local doctor appts, almost constant pain and instead of asking for help, Caitlin is ALWAYS the first one to offer help.
Now we, her family, friends, and co-workers would like to show a small token of our gratitude for all she does for everyone around her. Caitlin is going to be out of work for several months, possibly even a year. Let’s help her by giving her the financial security she needs to fully rest and get well for herself and her three amazing daughters.
As a result of this one botched surgery, she has thus far endured seven more surgeries and is currently in the hospital with at least 2-3 more surgeries on the horizon before she will be able to return home and return to work.
