Help Caiti Beat Uterine Cancer
Donation protected
Caiti Laszewski, or Pitch Slap as the derby-verse knows her, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of uterine cancer- uterine adenosarcoma. What started in March as a uterine polyp with the recommendation for surgical removal turned into something more complex, all while dealing with a pandemic that has made receiving timely healthcare difficult.
The official diagnosis came from Caiti's doctor on June 10th, followed by her first oncology meeting where it was determined that the best treatment would be a total hysterectomy. Then came more scans, meetings with fertility and reproductive specialists, a trip to Mayo, and finally...a moment to breathe.
After her most recent CT scan, Caiti has almost hit her insurance provider's out-of-pocket maximum. And the fight is only beginning. Cancer on its own is a hard enough battle to fight, especially at 32, but is compacted when you still have to balance medical bills, housing costs, student loan payments, groceries, pet care, all while also navigating the impacts to your job and career.
This is why we're asking for help. The funds raised will help keep Caiti whole as she moves forward with treatment. It will allow her some peace of mind while recovering from surgery and any recommended treatments afterward. The funds will also allow her to explore fertility options (the majority of which are ludicrously expensive). Surgery is now scheduled for July 13th!
Caiti works full time as an audio engineer in the media accessibility area, making video description (narration) for the blind and low-vision for TV and streaming content. In 2019, she finished the AS Engineering Broad Field program at Saint Paul College and has been accepted to UND to continue her electrical engineering studies. However, due to the cancer diagnosis, she has had to defer to the spring 2021 semester to make treatment and healing the top priority. Outside of work, she skates with Minnesota Roller Derby, teaches music lessons, and loves to sing. Her boyfriend Brian and their dog, Hank, are a great support system.
