UPDATE: Thank you to everyone for your generosity and helping us reach our initial goal of $5,000! This overwhelming amount of support has been beyond our wildest dreams. The money that you all donated will be used to pay for hospital parking fees as Caiden's family members visit him, as well as replacement clothing for Caiden and his six other siblings.
Caiden is doing better, and will hopefully be taken off the ventilator today, with hopes that he'll be able to go home to his family this weekend. With the family having lost everything in the fire, we're continuing the fundraiser and raising the goal to $10,000 to support their hotel costs while they're displaced, as well as replacement beds, sheets, and pillows.
At one year old, Caiden Oliphant has been one of the youngest protestors with Stomp Out Slumlords, marching with his great aunt, Barbara Cooper, a tenant leader at Ward 8's Marbury Plaza. Unfortunately, Caiden's house burned down last week and he's been in the hospital since then, recovering from severe smoke inhalation. His recovery has been slow and he's not likely to be out of the hospital for at least another week. His family is in a hotel for now, but they have lost all of their belongings in the fire and are struggling in the aftermath with Caiden in the hospital.
Their biggest need right now is transportation to and from the hospital to stay with Caiden, and money to replace all the kids' clothes. In addition to Caiden's injuries, his siblings Nevaeh, Amiyah, Dionnakiya, Donald, Carly, and Chase have all been displaced and lost all of their belongings. Help support the family of this one year old boy who's been on the frontlines fighting for tenants' rights.
