Help Caden Overcome Spinal Injury
Donation protected
On Saturday, February 8, 2025 Caden, a young (22), talented musician was in a serious car accident less than 2 blocks from his home. He was taken to Allen Hospital where he was then airlifted to the University of Iowa and rushed into surgery. He suffered a catastrophic break and dislocation of his spine. The surgeon said the injury is high impact, similar to that of someone falling out of an airplane. After surgery, the surgeon reported his spine was stabilized using plates and rods from T10 - L4. In addition, he stated that there were signs of some nerve function activity below the break, however, at this time, he is currently unable to feel his legs and is paralyzed from the waist down.
Caden has been moved to a rehabilitation center in Coralville, IA where, over the next several weeks, he will recover from surgery, rebuild his strength and learn the skills needed to return to his home in Waterloo. He will be confined to a wheelchair for mobility and continued healing. Although we currently do not have any specifics available to us, we do know that Caden's recovery will take 1-2 years. Currently, we are exploring every available option to assist with Caden’s existing and ongoing medical expenses, including additional physical therapy, and in making his home more handicapped accessible. To do so, there will need to be many modifications to the home, including immediate ones for daily functioning, such as a ramp and changes to the bathroom. Caden and his family will have ongoing expenses for these projects and for his physical therapy goals, and he could really use any financial help you can give.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to navigate this mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually challenging time. He is a warrior who is not giving up and has set high goals around regaining function of his elimination system and lower extremities as quickly as possible. Please help us to help Caden with his journey of recovery by giving what you can. Please check back periodically for updates on Caden's progress and to see how much your support means to him and his healing! Thank you, Caden’s friends and family.
