My name is Nicole (Gigi) McBride and I never thought I would make one of these. I’m asking for help for my daughter Devin  & her new little miracle Scarlett Joy Byler. Devin found out early on in her pregnancy that her daughter has a very rare tumor. She has a type II sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) a very fast growing tumor that is connected to her spine. There are only a handful of doctors that specialize in this. Devin had to leave her husband John that she has been with since she was 15 years old and their two kids and travel from NV to CO. Now living in CO thanks to Ronald McDonalds foundation. Devin and Scarlett had to have a rare surgery called an exit procedure. Exit procedure is not a typical c-section. It is where, during surgery mom works as life support while baby has surgery, before being detached from mom. Surgery was performed at 27 weeks gestation, removing the outer tumor, all while attached to mom. They only perform maybe two of these surgeries a year in CO, making it considered experimental. It is high risk and extremely painful for mother with a long recovery. To list the entire journey they have experienced so far would be like writing a novel from misdiagnosis to the 4 liters of blood transfusion (enough for a grown adult) baby Scarlett received just to survive the surgery. Day to day is a fight and Scarlett does not only have to fight for the complications of being a micro preemie but she will have to undergo another surgery to remove the internal tumor and tailbone. This tumor is cancerous and as of now it is unknown whether or not she will have treatments or multiple surgeries. She will have to be monitored and tested the rest of her life as these tumors can grow back. We are asking for help because we can not sustain this life style or afford all the medical care.
