help buy disabled-access home for boy in a hostel

This is Jay. Jay is 12 years old now and has been living in a hostel since he was 8. Jay is the funniest, wittiest most resiliently brave boy you could ever meet. Jay was born with a fatal muscle wasting illness called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which paralyses him as he grows older and just honestly, cuts short his life at a rate that devastates us. Jay and his mum Tina have had to live in emergency temporary accommodation for 4 years now because:

1) they don’t have the money to buy their own home or rent.

2) Jay has to move into a home that is adapted for someone who uses a powered wheelchair, tracking hoists, wet room etc, which the council after 4 years are still unable to provide for him.

The council has failed Jay so devastatingly that he has spent his most physically mobile years living in a hostel. Most people are only in this sort of accommodation for a maximum of months. Versus his 4 years due to being disabled. Now his condition has worsened drastically and he is unable to walk, stand and sit himself up. He needs assistance doing everything, and for this assistance he relies solely on the physical work of his mum, lifting him and moving him, due to living in a flat with no disabled aid such as hoists, he has even outgrown his wheelchair which makes life incredibly uncomfortable for him.

We are making this just go fund me page, now that we are finally at breaking point and can’t watch Jay be put through this lifestyle anymore. With this money we will be able to hopefully:

-buy our own equipment to help Jay have a better quality of life in his current emergency accommodation.

-put money towards adaptations of a home that he may (if ever) finally be placed in.

-in an amazing ideal situation we could put money towards buying jay’s own home, built for disabled people.

Owning your own home means freedom in having work done to it, to accommodate disability. This means Jay would get to experience a life with toilets that clean him so he doesn’t need the awkwardness of his mum cleaning him. He’d get hoists that can pick him up and put him in bed, the bath, the sofa without his mum having to physically carry him, which is becoming impossible as he gets bigger. Just everything is made easier when poverty isn’t further disabling you as a child with a fatal debilitating illness.

Jay is the most amazing boy and has been the best thing to have happened to us, now we are asking for help to make Jay’s life the best it could be in return, after so many years of patiently suffering and being let down by the system again and again. Please give what you can and know that 100% of it will go to making Jay’s life a little better, even hopefully buying him a home for his needs.
