Any for help with veterinary care for 9-year-old Butter is much appreciated. She was recently rescued by me because her owner died. I have since discovered that she has spent her entire 9 years LIVING IN A CRATE!
She arrived from the hell she had been living in with a UTI. I groomed her on Day 2 - and discovered that she also has a mass the size of a plum on the left side of her neck; a flat, hard, discoid lesion on the “tenders” of the right flank; and a flat, warty, oozing lesion on her left shoulder - that all need to be removed. She has obviously never had any dental work - and a few of her teeth are actually black with tartar. I scaled what I could myself when I groomed her - but she needs anesthesia for the worst ones. After she was groomed, and I uncovered her face - I found that her third eyelid is not entirely retracting in her right eye. This could be caused by several different conditions - but a definite visit to a canine ophthalmologist is in order. And she is about 20 lbs under weight. Her owner told me they only fed her about 3/4 a cup dry kibble each meal because “she didn’t get much exercise”, and they “floated” it over the water in her water dish because she eats so fast and this was to try to slow her down. How about she was flippin starving and inhaled whatever was offered her?
At 9 years of age, and after living 22.5 hrs a day in a crate - she is not house trained. She lacks even basic obedience command knowledge - which is fascinating since her owners show their other dogs in obedience competitions - just look at the uncaring response I got from dead owner’s wife concerning this. I mean - really? Sink me! And BTW - she doesn’t know “Go Crate” either.
I am a 75 year old cancer survivor with limited income - but want to make sure this girl has a chance to live out her best Airedale years as healthy as she can be - with me. I don’t have a vet lined up for her regular care yet - I take my dog to a vet I have used for 25 years for his care - but that’s not geographically possible at this time - my 18 year old car can’t be trusted to make the 300 mile round trip (and I don’t need car repair fees to complicate my life any more than it already is). So funds will be held in abeyance until I find a vet that I feel will do best for sweet Butter. I need your help. She needs:
1. Spay
2. Excision of 3 lesions
3. Dental work
4. Evaluation by canine ophthalmologist for third eyelid anomaly
…and I live in Calif where everything is stoopidly expensive.
And BTW - “Butter” is her new name. I was told by someone close that she called this AireGirl that name after she met her for the first time - and this (at that time) wiggly, 15-week-old pup “melted” in her arms like butter. So - new life - new name - Butter it is!
Butter is an absolute breath of fresh air - her lifetime of neglect has not daunted her indomitable Airedale Terrier spirit! She is ready and willing to take on the challenges of learning all the new things her previous owners never taught her - while their Australian Shepherd and Sheltie slept on their bed and had free run of the house! I have no idea what sins precious Butter committed for her to be treated like trash.
Thank you for contributing! AIREDALES FOREVER!
