Members from our church suggested we start a GoFundMe for my husband. On Monday, April 28th, he was admitted to the hospital in need of emergency surgery because he had an abscess, which we later found out was a horseshoe abscess with a fistula. This meant that once they removed it, they had to leave three drains in place to continue to drain the infection. This will be a lengthy recovery time of approximately four months. In 3-4 weeks from now, he'll have one drain removed, followed by the second one being removed in another 3-4 weeks, then the last one 3-4 weeks later, requiring another surgery to remove it and to sew up the fistula.
I've had to take time off work to care for him since he has come home from the hospital to attend to his frequent dressing changes. We are uncertain of when he can return to work himself due to the risk of infection because the openings/incisions are not closed or stitched up to allow for continued draining of the abscess. We are so very blessed to have him still with us because the outcome could have been dire. I find this difficult to fill out, as we prefer to help others, so asking for help is not something we are accustomed to.
