Help save Busters leg

Donation protected
This is Buster, a kitten born in our neighbor’s garage who we adopted about 10 months ago. At the time, we weren’t sure if we should even adopt a kitten, given that we already had a dog, two older cats, and weren’t in the best financial situation, but we figured the costs were manageable.

Buster has been a chaotic bundle of joy in the household, bringing out a playfulness in our older cats that we didn’t even know was still there. But during all her chaos, Buster ended up fracturing her elbow. We still don’t know how it happened. The vet said injuries like this are common in young animals and that we just had bad luck. Still, it’s hard to believe she was injured from a fall, since there’s nowhere in our home high enough to cause such a serious injury, and we’ve never had issues like this with any of our other pets.

We found her limping and brought her to the vet. They identified pain in her elbow and, after an X-ray ($650), confirmed a fracture in the olecranon of her right front elbow. This type of fracture doesn’t heal well on its own and requires surgery to pin the bone back into place, or the leg must be amputated. The surgery is estimated to cost over $6000, but we found a non-board-certified surgeon in Snoqualmie who is willing to do it for $3000 to $5000.

This is something we just can’t afford right now. We have about two weeks to decide whether to go through with the surgery, rehome her to someone willing to pay for it, or move forward with the more affordable option of amputation (under $1000).
