Skilled Nursing and hospital
Donation protected
Hello, we are the Vigna, McBride and Zamieroski, families. We are fundraising to help our mother stay in a skilled nursing rehab facility. On August 30, 2022, Mary Ann Zamieroski, better known as Busha, was in a head-on collision caused by a driver making a U-turn on Providence Road in Charlotte, NC. Busha was only one turn away from the safety of our neighborhood. One turn away from delivering her freshly baked pie to her grandson. One turn and the mistakes/negligence of two drivers caused Busha excruciating pain, trauma and loss of independence. She was transported from the scene in critical condition and placed in the Surgical Trauma ICU, where she stayed for ten days. Unfortunately, she had to undergo several complicated and life-saving surgeries to stabilize fractures and debride wounds. Amazingly, she survived her injuries and extensive blood loss.
After several weeks in the hospital and two weeks in acute rehab, Busha gained enough strength to transfer to a skilled nursing /rehabilitation facility. Sadly, she continues to suffer and struggle with excruciating pain and wound healing. She will require three more surgeries for her leg and arm mobility. Busha has been through enormous trauma for an 84-year-old and has put literal blood, sweat and tears into improving. She requires many months of rehab only to have the ability to walk up five stairs and go to the bathroom independently. She does not deserve this suffering!
Because her injuries resulted from a motor vehicle accident and the liability rests with two other drivers, her health insurance refuses to pay the rehab costs. The rehab costs and ADA updates to her home leave us with a significant out-of-pocket expenditure. Our goal is for Busha to gain enough independence to come home. The only way to do so is through rehab and extensive physical therapy. Please help us get her the care she deserves and needs. Our goal is to get Busha home and make more pies!
