Support Bush Sebar (Invisible Kids, Goma) to seek safety
Donation protected
Hi, I’m a UK based musician called Ellie and I’m fundraising on behalf of my friend, Bush Sebar, who is an exceptionally talented dancer, dance trainer and cultural operator from Congo.
Bush is a generous hearted individual who co-founded the famous Invisible Kids Academy in Goma, which he runs with his colleagues; keeping children from very varied circumstances safe from the highly dangerous streets of Goma, educating them to a high level in performing arts including dance and rap, even helping them to achieve worldwide prominence.
The Academy organises activities and festivals, in many different ways, to support refugees and children who live on the streets, to help to heal them from their trauma.
Bush has recently (mid Feb) fled DRC because of a tangible threat to his life: violent terror attacks and full scale invasion of Goma. All in all, a terrible situation that defies the imagination of many of us.
Bush’s primary goal has always been to protect the children he cares for and educates, but recently he was so much in fear for his own life that he has temporarily left Goma, in order to be able to safely return to the Academy when the situation has eased.
How do I know Bush? Through social media, following Invisible Kids Academy and Bush’s humanitarian work on other channels, we became connected and Bush took a video of me playing Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca and performed a hiphop dance to the music. This was such a fun way to introduce himself to me and we have become friends and colleagues. I look forward to working with the Invisible Kids Academy when Bush returns there and we can establish the video lessons we have planned for the children, where I will teach them about western music through the harp.
We are hoping to raise $5000 dollars so that Bush can reach a level of financial security that will enable him to safely return to Goma and continue his incredible work with the talented and determined students at the Academy.
To support Bush at this moment is far more than supporting an individual in a crisis. Congo is desperately short of strong and courageous leaders who will fight for and defend their country in the absence of proper leadership. Bush is a leader in the truest sense and brings people along on the journey with him, connecting people from all over the world. If you feel like you could spare a donation and become part of Bush’s inspirational journey, we would both be extremely grateful and will be updating you regularly with Bush’s progress.
