For every dog rescued from the cruelty of the meat trade in Harbin, China, the journey to safety is just the beginning. At Saving Harbin Dogs, a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit with teams in the US, UK, and Harbin, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home these innocent souls. We work tirelessly to give them the loving futures they deserve, fighting for a world where animal cruelty ends.

The scale of the crisis is staggering. An estimated 10 million dogs a year are subjected to unimaginable suffering—abused, starved, and brutally slaughtered for the dog meat trade. These are not nameless numbers; they are stolen pets, abandoned companions, and innocent beings who know only fear. We step in to save as many as we can, offering shelter, veterinary care, and boundless love, ultimately finding them safe, forever homes in the UK, Europe, and the US.

Now, we face a critical turning point. Two of our four safehouses are overflowing. They lack space, a yard, and the basic facilities to provide the quality of life our dogs desperately need. They live without a blade of grass to feel under their paws, confined indoors, awaiting a freedom that some may never know outside of China.

This New Year, we have a bold, heartfelt goal: to unite our dogs under one roof in a new, permanent sanctuary.

We dream of a place we can truly call their home. A place with:

A vast, safe yard where they can finally run on grass in the summer and roll in the snow in winter.

Proper kennels so no dog has to sleep in a cramped cage at night.

A grooming station to care for them without costly salon fees.

A quarantine area and puppy ward for the many vulnerable newborns we rescue.

Comfortable living quarters for our dedicated local caretakers, the "aunties and uncles" who are the dogs' daily heroes.

Most importantly, we seek a long-term lease to end the annual anxiety of eviction and relocation. Our dogs, some of whom will live with us forever, deserve stability. They shouldn't have to wait for a passport to experience joy.

This project is ambitious and expensive, but it is vital. We are doing this for the dogs we love—the resilient survivors who teach us about forgiveness and joy every single day.

With your support, we can build this "almost home," a true haven where healing can flourish and tails can wag freely, long before their journey abroad begins.

Please, help us give them the safety and comfort they have never known. Donate today and be a part of building their future.

With immense gratitude,

The Volunteers of Saving Harbin Dogs
