Help Build the New Home of Villa Villekulla Farm
Donation protected
After two successful seasons in Tunbridge, the gals (and guys) of Villa Villekulla Farm are preparing to move to the foothills of the Delectable Mountains in Barnard, Vermont to follow love and continue to craft extraordinary dairy items. We -- Lauren and Teo -- aim to build an entirely new production facility and barn structure to accommodate our growing herd, which is no small task! This will require clearing and grading land, pouring concrete and erecting buildings outfitted with the electrical and plumbing requirements that will allow us to keep housing, maintaining and milking our girls and turning that milk into something special. While we plan to rely upon loans and grants to help us realize this dream, those can take quite a long time to disperse (and often require "matching" funds) and we are anxious to get things underway so that we can begin our lives together in earnest! Until there is a place for the goats to live and for Lauren to make her dairy products, she will be forced to continue operating in Tunbridge and thus the newly married couple will be doing the long-distance thing until the barn and creamery are up.
The core of this undertaking is a desire for us to weave our lives together. When we first began talking about building this new farm, it was the catalyst for our decision to marry each other. We don't need stand mixers or ornate fruit bowls and honeymoons are for people who don't farm full time. We do need a barn and creamery where we can continue to pursue our dream of living amongst our sweet herd and making something that honors them. We really like the idea of having our loved ones share in the process of building our future, literally and figuratively.
We hope to begin work on this labor of love as soon as the ground thaws -- which in Vermont could be as late as May or June. With luck, we'll be able to celebrate a successful build-out this fall. Thank you for being a part of this exciting new phase!
