The More Heart initiative was launched in November 2019 to assist the less fortunate and those in need in the immediate Raleigh area. Over the past few months, using the proceeds we have raised, we have been able to create care packages for the homeless and provide immediate assistance to the impoverished. Soon after, another beautiful opportunity presented itself and we discovered that the principal of Richmond Gap Primary was seeking help to obtain much needed tools for his students in deep rural St. Thomas.
Richmond Gap is the only primary school in the remote area, and because of the deep rural location, students and staff are not afforded the government or community assistance that more urban schools enjoy. The students lack basic supplies like writing tools, notebooks, curriculum textbooks and other reading materials. Even their basic access to transportation is limited with some students walking up to an hour to and from school daily. The rocky terrain of the St. Thomas hills means that not even buses are available.
With great thanks to More Heart’s generous community, we were able to provide books, writing tools, and book bags to every student during our visit to the school. The Principal, Mr. Shevon Stewart, is a visionary with a desire to build a computer lab at the school to provide students with more learning opportunities in coding and computer engineering. We were immediately moved by his generous spirit and dedication to his students and so we talked of returning in 2021 to bring this computer lab to life, as well as repainting the school and providing the essential learning materials the school lacks.
We hope that you can assist us in creating new opportunities for the bright children of Richmond Gap Primary with this GoFundMe. While it won’t cover all of the costs, any support to our cause will help to make a pivotal change in the lives of every student and staff member. Your donations will provide immediate assistance to the students, members of the St. Thomas community and also influence the lives of countless students to come.
Proceeds will go towards:
- Installing six (6) computers with the necessary software to learn code
- Providing new textbooks and reading materials required by the curriculum
- Repaint the school
- Provide tools for faculty such as markers, charts and whiteboards
- Provide tools for students such as writing utensils, notebooks and calculators
