Brooklyn Speed & Power: Building Stronger Kids for Life
New York City is known for its vibrant culture, diversity, fast pace, iconic landmarks, deep history, music, food, and endless opportunities for exploration. This “Concrete Jungle” is a boundless playground!
However, as fun as it sounds, it comes with a lot of pressure especially for young athletes. A crucial time for kids between ages 7–18, as they are developing body mechanics and movement control, building confidence, self-image, and social identity that will shape their long-term wellbeing and participation in sport and life. But for many kids, sports programs prioritize winning over development. Children as young as 7 are pushed to perform before learning how to move safely, build strength, or gain confidence in their own bodies.
Girls are hit hardest. By age 14, they drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys. Many never receive the mentorship, support, or physical confidence they need to feel safe, capable, and motivated.
Brooklyn families face a bigger challenge. Most athletic programs are overcrowded, expensive, or focused on competition over athletic growth. There is no accessible, development-first athletic network where young people can learn lifelong movement skills, build resilience, and belong to a supportive community.
Why Brooklyn Speed & Power (BSP) Exists
BSP is a nonprofit creating a positive, development-first space for youth to grow strong bodies and confident minds.
We provide:
• Year-round physical literacy, strength training, and injury prevention
• A safe community for kids of all abilities, even those who don’t love sports yet
• A safe and supportive community for girls, building confidence before comparison and pressure take over
• Mentorship, leadership development, and lifelong wellness habits
• Affordable access for Brooklyn families
It's simple: Teach kids how to move well, feel strong, and believe in themselves in sports and in life.
How You Can Help
Creating this development-focused athletic community takes space, equipment, and caring coaches. Your donation will help us:
• Continue to secure athletic spaces for our programs (each year we invest over $50,000 to rent space in Brooklyn)
• Purchase state of the art training equipment (mats, hurdles, mobility tools, training machines)
• Offer scholarships so all kids can participate
• Fund girls’ mentorship and leadership programs
• Build a safe, supportive community where youth thrive
Every dollar brings us closer to giving Brooklyn youth the chance to grow stronger, healthier, and more confident both on and off the field.
Together, we can change the story of youth sports in Brooklyn.
Thank you for helping our kids become stronger people for life.
