Our Philosophy -- Serving the food we love
PennDel’s Bakehouse is a women-owned business specializing in delicious, locally-sourced, organic, custom-designed baked goods, including gluten free and vegan items. PennDel’s Bakehouse founded by Pamela Braxton and Gayle Tule-Chen in 2018, is the transformation and growth of Braxtons’ Boxes, a bake-to-order & delivery-only business. In January 2020, we signed the lease on a new home for PennDel’s Bakehouse in El Cerrito, CA! Our goal for this expansion is to promote delicious and comforting organic, locally-sourced, scratch-baked goods through our cakes, cupcakes, cookies, sweet and savory scones, breakfast muffins and more.
Our Sisterhood -- Two East Coast women with a California baking dream
We met 12 years ago outside Harding Elementary School in El Cerrito, waiting for our 1st graders (now college students). Chatting on the Harding sidewalk, building complementary business experiences, losing spouses and raising children, inspired the dream of and laid the foundation for PennDel’s Bakehouse. PennDel’s is the union of Braxtons’ Boxes (Pamela and her late husband’s wildly popular, custom delivery bakery of 15 years,) and Gayle’s 35+ years in the food industry (SF Culinary Academy graduate, Grace Baking, Mollie Stones and Solano Grill & Bar). That’s 50 years of experience creating divine baked goods! Our name symbolizes our coming together: Gayle is from Pennsylvania and Pamela is from Delaware. The time has finally come to dedicate ourselves to our shared dreams and passion: PennDel’s Bakehouse.
Our Vision-- Succeeding and helping our community do the same
Our Go Fund Me campaign goal is to garner support to open a “brick-and-mortar” location that enriches the community during these strange days, and beyond! There are no locally-sourced, from-scratch bakeries in the El Cerrito area. PennDel’s will fill that void with beautiful, organic, preservative-free, uniquely designed baked goods. We will help you celebrate family milestones, special occasions or satisfy your sweet tooth with the best slice of cake.
Your Go Fund Me donation/support means more to us than just opening a brick-and-mortar storefront. It means we have the opportunity to help the City of El Cerrito and its surrounding neighborhoods become better and stronger through the growth of community-based businesses rather than chain stores. Becoming a neighborhood fixture also builds community strength by increasing traffic to our network of local businesses. Our connection to the Richmond-to-Oakland communities and beyond is long-standing through Braxtons’ Boxes and Solano Grill & Bar’s successes. As an established kitchen and retail space, PennDel’s Bakehouse will provide a delicious oasis for our current and future clients. A centrally located, accessible space means we can focus on supporting school fundraisers and sponsoring local city and business events. Our goal is to build on the love and trust of those who have supported us in the past, reach even more people in search of a personal connection to a personal connection to their food, and inspire future bakers and staff through our philosophy of customized designs, recipes and personalized service.
