A LIBRARY FOR CHILDREN & COMMUNITY USE
I went in search of my birthplace (the small copper and gold mining village of Macalder) in Nyatike, in October 2025 where I had spent the first six years of my life.
As an experienced teacher, I was drawn to visit Macalder Primary where my brother attended and Miroche Comprehensive where my host family member was a teacher.
WHAT I FOUND WAS BOTH HEART BREAKING AND INSPIRING!
Teachers and students were deeply motivated to teach and learn, yet there was no access to the basics, such as a library.
Despite the challenges of no resources to aid with their learning, children and parents highly value education and will travel miles just to learn.
I have been inspired to create a library (and with time - computer station and science facilities) in two schools, Macalder Primary and Miroche Comprehensive School.
Both schools are in different parts of Macalder and will be able to serve the communities in both ends of the Nyatike area.
I hope to stock each school library with 1,000 (fiction & non-fiction) books, giving every child the chance to open a book , enjoy reading and discover new worlds.
Once completed, the library will be open to the wider community, allowing adults to learn, read, and grow alongside their children.
Your support will help us stock shelves with diverse books, equip the space with computers and learning tools, and create programs that inspire lifelong learning.
Every contribution - big or small - will bring us one step closer to making this dream a reality. I would really appreciate your support. Thank you. x
